We have heard a lot about Spain and wanted to see it all. Bullfights and fiestas, beautiful monuments and lovely roads are all specialties of Spain. Places like the Alhambra which is a must on every tourist’s itinerary and the beautiful dances and songs by Spanish ladies and gentlemen are all not to be missed. We can take a Schengen visa, which is common to several European countries, and go to Spain by road from any European country. You can also fly to Madrid or Barcelona and then reach Spain by road.

Spain is known for their bullfights, which may be a bit gory but are very exciting. Though several cities of Spain have bullfighting rings, the one at Madrid is the most popular. There are bullfights quite frequently and it is an event not to be missed. It is very colorful and though it is over within a short while, people are crazy about it. Bullfights are generally held during fiestas, on Sundays and special days. Spring and summer that are from March to October are ideal for visiting Spain and there are many bullfights during this period.

Spain is known for its cathedrals and churches too. Spain has a long history. Italians, Moors, Muslims and Christians have all come here, conquered Spain and left their mark. Spain is thus a melting pot of many cultures, which is what makes it very fascinating.
Spain is a Mediterranean country and the Mediterranean Sea surrounds it on two sides while one side the Atlantic Ocean laps its coastline. Portugal and France are her neighbors. The famous traveler, Christopher Columbus, who discovered America, was given permission by the Spanish King and Queen to do so. This led to Spain making several colonies and ruling almost half of the world.

Spain now is a part of the European Union and shares the Euro rail and the common currency the Euro with other European countries belonging to the EU. Most of the Spaniards are Christians but they have retained some Muslim and Moorish traditions and culture.

Tourism is the biggest industry today and thousands of people visit Spain every year. Spain hosted the Olympic Games in 1992 at Barcelona. Seville organized the Expo 92. Both the events were well organized and very well attended. Madrid is its Capital while Barcelona, Seville, and Granada are the other important cities. Spain is a Constitutional Monarchy and the King’s palace is at Madrid.

The Spanish people love singing and dancing. Every city and town has its own special fiesta. And there is some festival or the other during the entire year when there are parades, festivity, and singing, dancing, feasting, eating and drinking. Some of the festivals take place during the day and night and people really enjoy them and invite even total strangers for it. They are a very friendly people.

However there is one warning for tourists going to Spain. The have to be very careful about their personal belongings and not leave them unattended as, unfortunately, mugging and robbing is on the rise and many careless tourists have been the targets of such acts.
